5 Tips for Glowing Summer Skin

Summer holds a certain magic. Longer days invite spontaneity and offer more time for play and exploring in nature. But more travel, swimming, sweating, and sun exposure can take a toll on your skin. Dark spots, dryness, acne, clogged pores, dullness, and increased sensitivity are common complaints in the summer. It’s vital to protect, nourish and hydrate your skin while enduring the unforgiving heat and humidity. Here are our top tips to reveal your glowing summer skin.

LIGHTEN UP YOUR REGIMEN

While we advocate for proper skincare year-round, it’s important to shift with the seasons. Just as warming winter foods give way to lighter meals in the summer months, your skincare regimen should lighten up too.

Take a break from heavy oils and moisturizers and go light on make-up to let your skin breathe. Focus on using a clean, gentle cleanser and toner, lighter serums or moisturizers, and sun protection. Add a weekly purifying mask for pores prone to clogging.

TIME IT RIGHT

Nearly half of all UV radiation is emitted between 10am and 4pm. UV rays, even on cloudy days, can cause your skin to age prematurely and increase your risk of skin cancer. Opt for morning light instead which boosts serotonin and regulates cortisol and melatonin supporting a happy mood and good sleep.

Look for a mineral based sunscreen with zinc oxide as the active ingredient. This will physically block the sun’s rays so you don’t need to rely on chemicals for protection. Don’t forget your hands, neck and chest and don’t fear the sun. Lather up, throw on a hat, and get outside.

If you’re going for a bronzed look, consider a spray tan. Our organic tanning solution is naturally derived, vegan, PETA certified, and fragrance, paraben and erythrulose free.

BOOST YOUR CIRCULATION

Our blood delivers oxygen and necessary nutrients to our skin to fight breakouts, dryness, and signs of early aging, while helping transport carbon dioxide and other waste products away to prevent a build-up of toxins.

Exercise and infrared sauna are effective ways to improve blood flow and each comes with a host of other benefits. Don’t have time? Try a 10-minute facial massage.

HYDRATE

Proper hydration can’t be understated. Without it, not only is our health impacted but our skin is left looking dry and dull. Begin within and drink a huge glass of filtered water upon waking. Even better, add a squeeze of lemon or a dose of electrolytes. Your body will thank you.

Then hydrate from the outside. We love adding a hydrosol into our skincare routine during the warmer months. Lavender remediates excess heat from the body and calms inflammation. Store it in the refrigerator for extra-cooling skin relief.

EAT THE RAINBOW

Fill up your plate with the abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables that summer has to offer. Incorporate an array of vitamin packed leafy greens, antioxidant rich berries, and fish full of omega 3 fatty acids to fuel your skin’s natural beauty. These nutrients will help boost collagen production, reduce inflammation and redness, and protect your skin from damaging effects from the sun.

If summer travels leave you struggling to maintain your ideal diet, a boost of Vitamin C can help. Apply it topically with a Vitamin C serum or take it through IV or supplement form.
