Cooler Weather, Clearer Skin: Why Now Is the Time to Book Laser Treatment

There's a lot to look forward to as the weather cools, schedules normalize and we look forward to the holidays bringing everyone together. If you've been considering skin rejuvenation with laser treatment, this is actually the season to book it. Cooler months bring lower sun exposure, which happens to be one of the biggest factors in getting safe, lasting results from laser work.

We asked Megan Kingdon, ANP-C / WHNP-BC and Owner and Aesthetic Injector at Well Room, to walk us through how laser treatment works, which devices we use and why, what recovery looks like, and why timing matters as much as it does.

What Laser Treatment Actually Does

"A laser treatment uses a focused beam of light to target specific tissue in the body," Megan explains. LASER stands for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation — in practice, that light converts to heat and breaks down whatever it's aimed at, whether that's pigment, blood vessels, or hair follicles.

At Well Room, we work with three technologies, each built for a different goal:

  • Lumecca IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) — targets sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and redness

  • Diolaze XL — a laser hair removal system designed for long-term, comfortable hair reduction

  • Morpheus8 — combines radiofrequency heat with deep microneedling for subdermal remodeling, treating skin, laxity, jowling, and tightening in the lower face and neck

"Having all three gives us a lot of flexibility," Megan says. "We can build a plan around what's actually going on with your skin, instead of trying to make one device do everything."

Who Tends to See the Best Results

"The best candidates are usually healthy, with concerns like sun damage, redness, hyperpigmentation, unwanted hair, or early skin laxity," says Megan. "Staying consistent with skincare and sun protection before and after makes a real difference in how results hold up."

Most patients see significant hair reduction with DiolazeXL after four to six sessions, at which point they typically transition to periodic maintenance treatments to keep results looking their best. Lumecca is especially effective for sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and redness — many patients notice visibly clearer, brighter more even-toned skin after a series of sessions.

Morpheus8 is one of our most requested treatments for skin laxity and the visible signs of aging. Its main indications include jowling along the lower face, loose or crepey skin, and looseness in the neck — and it's the lower face in particular where this treatment really shines. Think of it as the "big guns" of the three — it's not an immediate-gratification treatment, but it works deeply. By combining RF heat with deeper microneedling, it remodels tissue below the skin's surface, stimulating collagen production at a subdermal level. As that collagen rebuilds over the weeks and months that follow, skin gradually tightens and fine lines soften. For clients who aren't ready for surgical intervention but want to address sagging along the jawline and neck, it's often the treatment that bridges that gap.

Why This Season Specifically

"Lower sun exposure in the fall and winter just makes for better, safer results," Megan says. This is especially true for Lumecca and DiolazeXL, since both work by targeting pigment — treating skin that hasn't been recently sun-exposed lowers the risk of pigmentation changes or sensitivity afterward.

Recovery, Realistically

Recovery looks different depending on the treatment. DiolazeXL has minimal downtime — some redness or slight swelling for a few hours, and you're back to your day. Lumecca typically causes darkening of pigmented spots and redness for three to seven days, with some patients experiencing mild swelling for several days as well — most people are comfortable going about their normal routine with a tinted sunscreen during that time. Morpheus8 usually means one to two days of redness at most, followed by weeks of quiet, behind-the-scenes work as the skin rebuilds collagen and gradually tightens.

Across all three, the same two things matter most: follow your provider's aftercare instructions, and keep your skin protected from the sun.
